Our Mission

MISRD’s mission is to show how judgment hurts people, both in obvious and hidden ways. We help people recognize their assumptions, challenge judgment, and value individuality over stereotypes.

The Name

What does MISRD mean?

MISRD is more than our name — it’s our mission.

You might see it as MISRD, misread, or MIS🟥.

They all stand for the same powerful idea:

challenging snap judgments and celebrating what makes you unique.

Because when you’ve been misread, you know how it feels.

And when you wear MISRD, you won’t let others define you.

How It Started

🔥 Why I Created MIS🟥

I’m Brian Rund, an Emmy-winning audio mixer, sound designer, and composer.

The idea for MISRD began while I was serving in the Navy, on a submarine out of New London, CT. When people on my sub found out I was Jewish, the stereotypes came fast. Some asked where my tail and horns were. Others told me I was going to hell. A few even said, “You’re not bad for a Jew.” I had to live and work alongside shipmates who were saying and believing these things, with nowhere to go and no way to escape. It wasn’t easy — and trying to change their minds felt pointless.

After the Navy, I went to school and then found work in the entertainment industry. I commuted into New York City wearing ripped jeans, a black t-shirt, a hoodie, and headphones — surrounded by people in suits who looked at me like I didn’t belong, or worse, like I was trash. They wouldn’t sit next to me unless they had no other choice. I worked long hours while helping raise two daughters with my wife. I loved my job. But whether it was strangers on the bus or friends and family, the same thing kept happening: people judged me without asking a single question.

That feeling — of being misread over and over — stuck with me.

I created MISRD as a way to wear what I couldn’t always say — to stand as a quiet challenge to every snap judgment and stereotype. What started as something for me became something for anyone who’s ever felt the same — and anyone ready to show they won’t live inside someone else’s box.
